This morning I attended my first Barre Bootcamp. It was an early one (6AM). It was a hard one. And it was a blast.
On the way home, I got to thinking about the important of resistance in our lives.
When we don’t believe in something, or someone, we may practice resistance through our words and/or actions.
When someone doesn’t have our best interests at heart, we may practice resistance as a means to protect ourselves and/or for our voice to be heard.
Resistance can be about our ability to *not* be affected by something. For example, when we have a high resistance to colds, we have less of a tendency to get sick.
And all this thinking about resistance… got me thinking how resistance is either a means to describe our strength or the practice of making ourselves stronger.
When it comes to the resistance we face when working out, our muscles will work to overcome resistant forces whenever, however it can. The more we work to overcome, the stronger we get.
When it comes to the resistance we face in our relationships — sometimes at work, sometimes at home — the better it helps us to think, to understand what we believe, to make a better argument, to influence, to achieve.
And whether we’re talking about the physical workouts at the gym or the mental workouts at the office or at the dinner table… we don’t always make it 100% to the place where we hope to, but the practice ensures we get stronger through the process.
What does the practice of resistance mean to you?
