3 Things about 3PW

1. What is it?

3PW (Three People Walking) is an invitation-only sharing event that’s open to everyone and is focused on “every person wisdom.”

You’ll usually find a nice group of curious, interested, and open-minded people who share stories about what they’re learning and thinking based on their experiences.

2. Where does 3PW come from?

3PW is inspired by one of the greatest pieces of Chinese wisdom: 三人行,必有我师焉 (san1 ren2 xing2, bi4 you3 wo3 shi1 yan1) – which roughly translates to: 

When three people go walking, my teacher must be there. Or, in other words, when you’re in the presence of others, there’s definitely an opportunity to learn.

3. How does it work?

3PW (Three People Walking) is an invitation-only sharing event that’s open to everyone and is focused on “every person wisdom.”

3PW (Three People Walking) is an invitation-only sharing event that’s open to everyone and is focused on “every person wisdom.” You’ll usually find a nice group of curious, interested, and open-minded people who share stories about what they’re learning and thinking based on their experiences.
The goal of 3PW is to encourage thoughtful exchange and to build meaningful connection.
 
No posters, no flyers, no advertising. We simply encourage people who are invited and enjoy the experience to bring one person with them next time.

Each share is 3 mins (or less). Afterwards there’s 3 mins of questions (questions-only, no comments).

If you share less than 3 mins, then there’s more time for questions. The idea is that everyone gets 6 mins to have “the floor.” And while you’ll always be encouraged to share, you’re also welcome to just come to listen and ask questions.

Sometimes there’s a bit of “awkward” silence in between (it’s only awkward if you make it awkward). This is a good time to reflect on what was just shared. Or just to have a quiet moment until you or someone else decides to share next.

The 3 P’s of 3PW guide each share:

(1P) Share something that’s Personal and matters to you – the best shares are usually an experience and/or something you’re thinking about.

(2P) Share something that offers all of us a Perspective into your world. What do you see as “the point” of your experience and/or thoughts? What does it mean to you?

(3P) Ask something that will Provoke thoughts in the sharer (and everyone else in the room) during the Questions time.

There isn’t a weekly theme, but there the regular structure we use to determine what we share is the 3Ps (see above).

Over the last 5 years, we’ve found it’s much more interesting to share and hear stories about what people are learning and thinking based on their experiences… these days.

Depending on the host (and whether it’s in-person or online), 3PW folks typically gather for 1-3 hours.

You’re welcome to come when you can and leave when you need (it’s not necessary to stay the whole time).

Simply be the first to click the “Join Me” button on this page between 1-2 PM (US Eastern Time – translate to your timezone here). You will be directed to a Waiting Room for our Zoom call. If you’re the first to arrive, I will immediately admit you to begin our ABC. Otherwise, maybe we’ll get to try again in 24 hours?

YES. Each ABC will be recorded via Zoom (audio only).

What will happen with the recording? Will we do a podcast like BA? Soundbites for something else? We’re not 100% sure. This is part of the experiment. We’re adapting as we go.

Please use a pair of headphones and make sure you’re in a quiet space. Leave your camera OFF at all times (remember, it’s anonymous!).

Download the Zoom app to your phone or computer. If you’re joining from a computer, check your Zoom audio settings in advance.

  • Select your headphones as Speaker output.
  • If you have an external microphone, select it as your Microphone input. If not, select Built-In Microphone.
  • Adjust Input Level to at least 75%.
  • Uncheck “Automatically adjust microphone volume.”
